Gifts for Baseball Fanatics

Yesterday, the Gift Gurus went out to the old ball game and enjoyed a day at Citi Field, home to the New York Mets. (We watched the Mets take on the Atlanta Braves.) As a team-building practice, sometimes it’s helpful to get out and watch how other teams work together. I’m a lifelong baseball fan and love getting out to a game, but when I’m wearing my gift expert hat, I realize that buying a gift for a baseball addict can be a daunting task. Some fans like memorabilia, others want apparel, and still others want to decorate their Man Caves using team pride. To help you narrow it down, I’ve found some baseball-related gifts that are sure to be home runs.

For veteran baseball nuts, pick a book like The Big Show: Charles M. Conlon’s Golden Age Baseball Photographs ($23.29). Conlon took thousands of photos from 1904 to 1942. These stunning black-and-white images capture the essence of the game. The book is baseball gold, with 200 pages of pictures of early baseball heroes like Bath Ruth, Ty Cobb, and Joe DiMaggio. And it will look great on a coffee table.

Another fun gift for the baseball lover’s home is the home plate door mat ($22). Made from weather-resistant coconut fiber, the mat could work at an outdoor entryway, but it would also look cool at the entrance of a Man Cave. This would make a great housewarming gift for a baseball lover.

For young baseball fans, how about a youth-size Rawlings bat engraved with the child’s own name? A personalized bat ($24.99) not only makes a kid feel special, but is also less likely to get lost at the park.

Keeping score at the game is not for every fan, but for those who do it, the Baseball Scorekeeper Book ($16)  will go over well. With 40 scorecards (and how-to scoring notes for the rookie) and a pocket to keep ticket stubs or memorabilia, baseball fans young and old will appreciate and use this.

The best gift you can get a baseball fan is a ticket to a game. There is nothing like taking in the green grass of the field, the ballpark food and the excitement of the crowd. A big league game can get pricey, so try using a ticket marketplace like Stub Hub. Or try a local Minor League game. The Minor Leagues offer major entertainment value for baseball fans for a fraction of the cost.

And, here we are celebrating our day out at the ball game. Go Mets!
